How does MELITZamerica work?
Your community chooses, upon consultation with Melitz, the MELITZamerica educator you would like to bring in for the amount of time that works for you. The MELITZamerica educator is available to meet with any group that wishes to take advantage of the program, across age (4th grade and up), denomination, and lay/professional lines. The MELITZamerica educator is available to work 6 days a week, 3 groups a day, including Shabbat. Ideally, one organization in the community acts as the sponsoring body, and either "gives" the community the month of programming as a gift, or bills each of the participating organizations for their share of the program.
What are my responsibilities as the sponsoring organization?
Speaker's fee (see
chart)
Housing for speaker (home hospitality is fine, hotel is preferred)
Domestic roundtrip airfare from New York
Internal transportation-either a rental car (preferred) or a driver (available
on short notice)
Setting up the program
Publicizing the program widely or making sure the user organizations publicize
the program
Providing the MELITZamerica educator with a local contact person
Making sure that Shabbat meals are provided when needed
Why MELITZamerica?
Because
Renewing Jewish identity has never been more important than now - in the wake of the recent war in Lebanon, and the support and solidarity shown by North American Jewry. Israel has always served as a source of inspiration and values for the Jewish world and the current situation makes the relationship even more important.
Melitz is based in Jerusalem, the heart of the Jewish world. We are uniquely positioned to bring Israel and the values of Jewish Peoplehood to your community.
Our mission is to bolster the relationship between Israel and world Jewry and to help North American Jews grapple with vital issues of Jewish identity and Peoplehood.
MELITZamerica educators are of the highest caliber - experienced, charismatic and with top academic credentials. Our first rate communication skills make us experts in engaging diverse audiences in meaningful learning experiences.
MELITZamerica educators are committed to promoting tolerance and openness to the mosaic of Jewish life. Our faculty reflects the diverse cultural and religious range of contemporary Jewry.
The key to making MELITZamerica happen is finding the right organizational arm in the community who has both the educational stature and the program budget, or the ability to access community funds.
Some practical ideas for making this happen include:
Finding a very pro-Israel donor in the community who would be interested in sponsoring the whole engagement in their name. It is a relatively small amount of money to be responsible for so many pro-Israel programs in one community.
Dividing the cost of the engagement over the many organizations that will benefit from the educator.
