Day 4 - The Holocaust and Terezin

8:00 - 8:45 A survivor of Terezin - will address the group, relating his personal experience during the war.

8:45 - 16:00 Depart for Therezienstadt which is an hour away. In the bus there will be a briefing about the Holocaust in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and "Czech Jews in Terezin - from assimilation back to a forced Jewish identity". The survivor will accompany us to Terezin. Our program will consist of a visit to the museum, walk through the town, visit to the prayer house, the colombarium, the crematorium and the cemetery. We will discuss the unique nature of education and cultural activity that took place in this camp/ghetto. After we visit the Small Fortress, we will conclude with a memorial ceremony at the Ohre River where ashes of the victims were dumped into the water.

16:00 -18:30 Free time for people to walk about or shop for souvenirs.

19:00 - 20:00 Dinner

20:00 - 21:00 Meeting with one of the leaders of the Kehilla to discuss life under Communism, problems of Jewish identity today and the attempts to revive a Jewish community.
