This year, Avraham Infeld is marking a remarkable anniversary – 50 years living in Israel. During that time, Avraham has inspired tens of thousands of Jews worldwide with his unique brand of passion, learning, humor and storytelling. As he continues to do so, Melitz – founded by Avraham in 1973 – seeks to honor him by establishing a five-year spend down endowment fund dedicated to educational projects close to Avraham’s heart. This will be known as the Avraham Infeld Melitz Jewish Education Venture Fund.
These projects will be an ongoing celebration of the ideas and values that have guided Avraham’s work from the 1950s until today, as he so uniquely summarizes in his famous description of the five-legged table. Each leg represents a dimension of Jewish life, as conveyed by Avraham with great warmth and humor.

We hope that the Avraham Infeld Melitz Jewish Education Venture Fund will be supported by a great many of Avraham’s friends and students whom he has inspired over the decades and wish to see the ongoing development of his style of Jewish education. We are three community leaders from New York, Memphis and New Orleans who have been inspired by Avraham over many years and are honored to serve on the Melitz Board.

The Avraham Infeld Melitz Jewish Education Venture Fund will seek to translate Avraham’s five-legged table into low cost and high impact educational projects by funding young educators with grants of $10,000 - $25,000, to develop new projects that advance at least three of the “legs". This will advance Avraham’s vision that if all Jews commit to at least three of the legs, they will always have at least one leg in common with all other Jews.

One of Avraham’s greatest talents is identifying outstanding educators and matching them with important ideas. This fund will operate on that basis. With Avraham’s mentoring, it will nurture a new generation of creative Jewish educators who, with some modest support, will be able to advance their ideas from dream to reality.

The fund will have a steering committee made up of senior Jewish educators and lay people who can both select and steer the projects towards fruition. The steering committee will be coordinated by Michael Wegier, Melitz Executive Director. Avraham Infeld will play a central role in the committee and his guidance will be invaluable.
The goal of this project is to allow educational creativity to sparkle. We seek to draw in new people to the wonder of Infeld-inspired Jewish education.
